Poultry Experiences in the Dominican Republic

1) You CAN make a chicken drink when it's not thirsty if you hold it down and keep its beak open with a stick (we did not hurt the hen in anyway while doing this).
2) Chickens don't like being tied up by their wings she was given to us this way by the people at the market.
3) Giving a chicken enough rum to give you a buzz may be a bit extreme.
4) Chickens gargle their rum.
5) Chickens vomit.
6) Plucking chickens can be difficult (wing feathers and tail feathers are the hardest).
7) Old hens make for tough meat.
8) If you are buying a live chicken with the intention of eating it, ask for a young one. A spring chicken, if you will;)
9) Drunk chicken is a tasty dish, great flavor, traditionally a Puerto Rican dish, we made it in the DR.
